He is able to find shelter, food, fresh water, as well as the materials to build a coracle. Last, Ben makes it quite clear that he enjoys his cheese and misses it due to his island diet. These are the reasons why Ben Gunn is an interesting and memorable character.
The final interesting and memorable character is Jim Hawkins. Jim is a very brave young man. He proves this when he decides to leave his mom alone at their inn to travel to Treasure Island. Jim is also quite lucky in all that he does. For example, when he encounters one of the dishonest men, nearly escaping death.
